Position:
Senior Mechanical Engineer - Interconnect

Summary/Purpose

This role offers the opportunity to leverage your mechanical design background, strong communication and project management skills to make a powerful and visible impact on our growing organization. As an Interconnect Engineer, you will be responsible for the introduction of new product designs, design from specification and reverse engineering while also playing a key role in process improvement initiatives. You'll work with a talented team of individuals and have the opportunity to see projects through from concept to completion; from both the product side and the tooling side.

Job Functions

- Responsible for the design, development, and validation of connector solutions (including but not limited to board, cable, power, signal, and panel mount products). Leads new product design efforts using the Product Development Process from product concept through production

- Select materials based upon industry and customer performance specifications and standards

- Work directly with purchasing, quality, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, process engineering, electroplating, suppliers, and other necessary groups as a cross functional team to develop products/solutions

- Create 3D models and manufacturing drawing packages with modeling software (Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, Catia, etc.)

Job Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years experience designing connectors and connector components (shells, contact, sockets, inserts, seals, wafers, etc.). Industry experience in lieu of degree will be considered

- Strong background with various materials and material properties (metal, alloys, plastics, rubber, etc)

- Familiarity with industry specifications and standards DOD4120.24M, SD-6, & Mil-STD-790 as well as ASTM, UL, NEMA, SAE and Military specifications

- Strong drafting and modeling experience

- Experience performing conceptual mechanical design or complex modifications of existing products. Provide onsite technical support for all manufacturing builds including engineering prototypes, NPI & production releases

- Stay abreast of the latest technology and techniques to provide designs that are competitive and cost effective

- Support engineering lead and management in identifying internal and external resources to support product development

- Create test and qualification plans to evaluate product performance and adherence to standards and specifications. Lead efforts to obtain new and maintain current certifications for qualified product listing

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret specifications and standards, drawings, technical procedures, and test data.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of engineers, clients, customers and the general public.
